sending texts to a mobile number?

Is this even possible in Adium? I know you could do it in messenger but is there a way to do it? I tried it with a google account but nothing was recognized. I currently have Adium 1.4 running on OSX 10.6.6. Thanks for any help you can give.

I tried it with an AIM account too but I was only able to send, the mobile wasn't able to reply. This is a fairly easy thing to do in windows so why am I having so much trouble?

Google disabled third-party text messaging a while ago.

That's what I've tried but nothing happens with it. Granted I don't get an error message as when I tried with the other methods, just nothing happens.
