Ok so this has a lot of things involved with it. Last week I know there was some major problems people had with AIM for a few hours. In the past week, my friend has had some errors leaving me offline messages, and 2 days ago I started having this problem as well (it says it's unable to send the message, when normally it just send it).

Last night, it randomly disconnected me. I then could not reconnect. I thought perhaps my account had been hacked, so I changed my password, rebooted the program, etc. When this didn't work, I changed the password again. I couldn't connect via Adium, iChat, AIM Express and I even downloaded and tried real AIM. I figured it was on their end, so I simply stopped trying until this morning (I know they have that too many attempts to connect block). I was able to log on today, but the displayed name is wrong*. It wasn't wrong anywhere in preferences, so I created a new, duplicate account. I forgot to sign out the original one first, and this apparently caused it to flip out and half sign off the original one. I signed off both, and tried again. Now, it won't let me message anyone who is not on available. I signed off on Adium, and tried with all the other programs. Every other one will let me sign in and message anyone. It seems the name problem might be with iChat, and I told it to use my handle. Going back to Adium, it will sign on, but the status permanently shows "connecting," and I still cannot message anyone that isn't completely "available." My friend told me my handle is showing up, so IDK why it's not showing that for me.

The weirdest part is that my friend's AIM handle shows up when I am signed off AIM, and only signed into GTalk and FB.

TL;DR: I can sign on to aim, but I can only message someone who is available, not even someone with an away message, and it shows my status perpetually as "connecting."


*I have it set to show handle, but it's showing the name of the friend I bought the computer off of, something else that was completely purged from the computer.

Update: I can get it to sign on, but it doesn't allow me to message everyone, including people who are available. Still says connecting.

Edit: It seems that if it's someone I frequently talk to, I cant message them, but they can message me. Whaat.

Update 2: So I right clicked into my profile on my visible status, typed in my screen name in the nickname section, and now it lets me message anyone (as near as I can tell). Still says connecting as the status. Still can't leave offline messages.

Update 3:

I've discovered that if I remake my account every time I open the program, it solves the eternal "Connecting" status and allows me to message anyone. However, today it has prompted me for my password 4 times since 6 am, and the password is saved. I'm thinking this might be somehow with just this account and perhaps on my computer.
