Hard Drive Activity While Adium Idle

Hi All,
Have been having an odd issue while using Adium over the last few months. It took me a while to pin down that it was Adium causing it.
Basically, I have an iMac, I had Adium running on it all the time for my Google Talk. ( I have switched to iChat for the time being due to the problem).
I have been noticing over the last few months, when I put my display to sleep, after about 10 mins, some process would start writing to the hard drive literally every second. I could hear the hard drive doing it's read/writes. As soon as I would wake the display to see what was going on, the writing stops.
I eventually found a UNIX command to run on the terminal that would output the hard drive usage (fs_usage).
So I ssh'd into my iMac from my MacBook and then started running the fs_usage, I put the display on the iMac asleep and waited til the hard drive writing bug started.
What I could see on the fs_usage log was litteraly every second Adium would make a write to a few files in it's support folder, and this would be constant until I awoke the display and the writes would stop.
I then quit Adium and repeated the process and the writing bug did not occur.
I repeated several times with Adium running or not running and each time Adium was running, I would see the file writing every second.
Sorry I cannot prove the fs_usage output as this was a few weeks back and I never thought to keep the logs.
If needs be I can put Adium back on and generate new logs to show this issue.
Any body got any ideas?
I much prefer Adium to iChat, but this bugs the hell out of me. The iMac is in the bedroom and usually it is as quiet as a mouse, but when this bug started happening, all you can hear, especially when trying to sleep, is the hard drive doing its nut.
