Unable to select displayed screen name

I tried searching the forums for this issue, and I don't even know if I'll be able to explain it without being too terribly confusing so hopefully someone has run into this issue before, or found a fix for it.
Previously when I would have more than one screen name signed on in Adium there would be an arrow next to my screen name so I could select which name was being displayed there in my contact list. One night I realized the name being shown isn't the one I wanted and I was unable to change it. I can double click on the screen name and can type what I want, but I didn't know if that would effect what other users on AIM see as far as my display name. I figured maybe it was just more for personal preference, but I liked being able to select which name was there.
I recently completely reinstalled my OS and the issue persists. A friend of mine who is also running the same version of Adium doesn't seem to have this problem. Any help? I've included an image so that if none of this makes sense you can hopefully see what I mean! In the picture, the arrow would typically appear right next to where my screen name is blurred out.
