This is a problem I've had for a very long time now. About 95% of the time I use Adium, all of my contacts appear offline.

I am currently using Adium 1.4.2 on Mac OS X 10.6.7 with Intel. I had the same problem with Leopard.

Edit: Now currently using 10.6.8
