Group chats & message log

Hi,
I'm currently developing a plugin for Adium to support another service.
So far, I'm getting along, but I encountered a problem when using group chats:
I created a new chat instance, set a new display name (which is also equal to the identifier), set the group chat property to YES and add all participating contacts, excluding me.
Unfortunately when I check the message log, the chat is not represented by the identifier (or display name), but by the name of one contact and also some weird string attached.
Furthermore, if I open this chat, it creates a contact (!) chat with a list contact, having that weird identifier as UID.
Am I doing sth. wrong, or is this a limitation of Adium so far?
