flip contact list to horizontal strip instead of vertical?

I was wondering if there is a way to flip your contact list from the normal vertical display to a "dock like" horizontal strip?
Or a maze or puzzle of pictures icon of your contact list.
I have attached what I mean by that, hope someone can enlight me with this. I have been searching everywhere.
