Adium 1.4.3 - AIM + purple_presence_set_status_active error

Adium 1.4.3 on Snow Leopard 10.6.8:
Adium starts up just fine. I don't automatically connect to any IM service. I had my .Mac [AIM] account set to login to login.oscar.aol.com:5190. For Encryption settings, I had "Use encryption when available" selected. After clicking "Connect to" for my .Mac account, Console shows the following error occurring 133 times in one second:

Code: Select all

** (process:945): CRITICAL **: purple_presence_set_status_active: assertion `status != NULL' failed
Then, three seconds later, the errors continue with:

Code: Select all

SocketRead err = -9806
cdsa: SSLHandshake failed with error -9806 (connection closed via error)
Then my it seems Adium connects and my Buddies list appears.

I dig a little more digging. This ticket: http://trac.adium.im/ticket/9553 mentioned "slogin.oscar.aol.com" rather than just "login..." as I was using. So I changed my settings to slogin.oscar... and selected "Require encryption". I quite Adium, restarted it, logged into AIM: same 133 purpose_presence_set_status_active errors, same -9806 error.

So I selected "No encryption", but kept slogin.oscar..., quit Adium, restarted, reconnected, and: same 133 purpose_presence_set_status_active errors, but no -9806 error.

My first question is: is there a server/port/Encryption-preference configuration that is "correct" that will use SSL/encryption without triggering the -9806 error. Or is it just a fact of life dealing with an AOL server?

My second question is: does any developer know why the purpose_presence_set_status_active keeps firing (especially 133 times in a second)? I understand that this error probably isn't really critical -- it certainly hasn't been crash-inducing. I've noticed it for some time when looking through the logs. But the last mention the Search results showed here was back in May 2010. If it's not a crash-inducing bug, is it at least small enough that someone could fix it quickly? Or (again) is it just a fact of life dealing with an AOL server?

OR Is this an issue for the libpurple development team? (After posting this initially, I went to http://trac.adium.im/wiki/Development and saw mention of libpurple. So I googled "libpurple purple_presence_set_status_active" and saw several instances of it, many of which were not related to Adium.)
