Is there a way to hide staus messages in chat window?

Sorry if this has been asked recently, but I couldn't find anything recent on it. I don't really care to see the status updates of "XXXXXX is Idle", etc. in my chat message window. Is there a way to disable these notifications? I am using version 1.4.3.
