In Preferences > Events, change either the event preset or remove the Growl notification from each event.

I got updated my Adium to version 1.5 and I started having the pop-up notifications in the upper right corner of the screen - they pop up when some of my contacts come online or when somebody typed the message so that message is shown too. It's a really annoying feature for me and I don't have no idea of how to disable it. Pls help me.

I would suggest reading what people posted here instead of copy-pasting stuff blindly.

After update, Adium growl messages are appearing despite Growl being stopped. This is related to this thread, though not entirely the same. I understand how to disable the growl notifications in the event preferences, but the point is that growl notifications, whether they are set to be triggered in the events or not, should not show up when Growl is stopped.

You are in error. Adium comes with Growl notifications that work without having Growl.app installed or active (called "Mist"). http://growl.info/notetodevelopers has more information on this.

You're right. I thought it only used Mist if Growl was not installed, but apparently it uses it if Growl is stopped, too. That's pretty annoying, considering Mist is not as convenient to disable. I would recommend implementing a notification master control for the Adium application. That way, if a user wants to disable event notifications temporarily, it is a single click. Adding and removing notifications per event to achieve this goal is a poor UX.

You can choose a different notification preset.

That could be worth some evaluation.

yeah, here's the problem: you're at work and you have to do a presentation in the meeting room.... you definitively don't want you IM messages popping yup, or your emails. Previously it was as simple as clicking on "Stop Growl" in the menu bar. This is NOT a setting you should be changing PER application that sends notifications. Saying otherwise is like saying you have to go to all your apps and mute the sound because if you mute at the OS level, the apps will send the sound through a different path bypassing the OS control.

For that you can change to a status that mutes sounds and Growl.

This works with Growl 1.3.

It's as easy as this:

Just select to pause Growl. :)

Or you can just stop running adium when you are giving a presentation. Which is what I do. It's much simpler.

Found this on the Adium site -- it turns off Mist, so that you can control notifications entirely through Growl proper:

defaults write -g com.growl.growlframework.mist.enabled -bool NO

(from http://adium.im/blog/2012/03/adium-1-5-released/)

Return to “Adium”
