Chat Encryption Assistance

Hi -
My company uses Adium for its IM. I don't want to bug the IT guys, and would rather not have to uninstall Adium. I was playing around with the chat encryption and currently have my settings as "encrypt chats as requested". It seems to work alright, but I noticed that sometimes people can't IM me and that sometimes people do not see my IMs. Does anyone know why this is? My ideal situation would be to retain chat encryption, but make sure i can receive and send IM's always. I also had my settings as automatically encrypt chats and the same thing happened. Any ideas?
