Service Specific Emoticons

I thought I saw a blip about .8 might have a service specific emoticons setting, but I can't seem to find that thread again, so I thought I would start this one.

Of course Adium is millions of times better than Fire, but just for comparison, how the emoticons are done on it: If you are chatting with a Yahoo buddy ...those are the only smilies that show/can be choosen, ditto with all the services. Just about the only thing I liked about Fire.

Anyway, not a huge deal, just wondering if it was still in the works, or had been tossed?

Thanks guys! Keep up the great work! :D

It is implemented, but not in a configurable way. Packs which explicitly state which service they are for in their .plist will be preferred for that service; I believe also that non-service-specific packs will have priority over a pack that identifies itself as being for a different service entirely.

Here's an example:

I have a pack installed that identifies itself as being an MSN pack. I have one for Yahoo, one for AIM and two which have no service. They are in this order in the preferences:

Yahoo
MSN
None1
AIM
None2

Each service will prefer to use the pack which claims relevance. If I type an emoticon in an MSN chat and it is not found in the MSN pack, the next one to be checked is None1, followed by None2. If it's not found there, only then will the Yahoo and then AIM packs be checked.

I'm not a dev, so I'm not sure if this is exactly right; but this appears to be how it works in practice.
