Adium AIM Alias Error

Post by zorgie »

Hello, I'm kind of new at these forums but I have noticed an annoying bug. In adium when you make an alias of someone on your AIM buddy list, it does the same thing on the aol instant messenger program. It is written in quotes though, such as "Bob." This is a problem because when I go to aol instant messenger to send a file to someone or invite someone to a buddy chat, it says, for example, "Bob" isn't online. To fix this problem I would have to take the alias off my adium, but I don't think that will work if you use adium on another computer. This error has been in lots of adiumx versions for me including the .80 betas.

By design, the official AIM client puts quotes around aliases.

Although Adium allows you in most places to type "Bob" in place the screen name, in the official AIM client you still need to type the actual screen name. Does that help?
The duck still burns.

In the official AIM client, I don't think you can type in the actual screename. If you put alias for a screename on adium (AIM screename) it will make the alias on aol instant messenger with quotes and if you do this, it won't recognize the screename. Like if I invite someone to an AIM chat room, even if I type their actual screename instead of their alias, it will say "bob" (using bob as an example) isn't online. Same thing with sending a file to someone.
