It seems spotlight ranks search items by the date last opened. However, the html files of Adium logs are all never opened and always listed last before after my old iChat logs and all other documents.

Is there any way to remedy this?

they are opened if you view them in the log viewer, but aside from that it sounds like a feature of teh system...

It just means they need to change the last modified date whenever they write to the logs.

Well, not last modified date, put the date created as the date last opened too.

I think that's how iChat does it and gets its chats listed with the correct date in spotlight searches

so the request to the admins is that on closing the log files (whenever that happens, on closing the conversation?) the file is touched by the system. So it looks like it's been opened...
