Adium Help ducuments

Evan posted this in the 0.8 release stickie:

On the subject of documentation - I know the wiki is progressing, and that will of course be the definitive resource. However, it's always nice to have something app-side as well, that you can read offline. I realise that's less of an issue with Adium being what it is, of course :) I also like it when an App has a Help Viewer document - somehow it feels more helpful, whether the content it any good or not!

The subject of a quick-start guide has been brought up before; I rather like it. How about a brief (1 or 2 page) overview that tells people the bare bones of what they need to know - adding an account, adding/changing statuses, a summary of preferences. It'd serve as a stop-gap until the wiki goes live, and it would carry links to the detailed articles online once it did.

I imagine it as a kind of updated version of the faq, 0.8-specific and a bit more usage-orientated. I suppose I'm volunteering to write it, as it's my suggestion.

Thoughts? Good idea, bad idea, plain unnecessary? :D

Sounds like a good plan to me... 0.81 will be hot on the heels of 0.80 I imagine, at least partially just to get last minute bug fixes in before submitting to the ADA, and it'd be great to have something like that in place. Write it up! =)

Deadline is May 13 (same day as graduation, w00t), but we may submit before then depending on who is taking responsibility... if I am, it'll be early next week, while I have net access at all -- go go dial up! -- from the beach :D

Right now I'm wishing 0.80 had been posted as 0.81 as mac-arena has already fixed the dock icon bug, and I fixed the Actions submenu bug... and the Custom Status window for Chinese is accidentally in Italian which is silly but slightly funny, but ah well, we'll just look all productive and stuff with a point release hot on the heels of a major one. :)
