Norwegian localization / Norsk oversettelse

Post by PigZelner »

I'm currently working on a norwegian translation for Adium. I have worked a bit on the .nibs, but I am wondering about what you norwegian guys thinks about this translating: (made it to look similar to iChat)

Online "Pålogget"
Offline "Frakoblet"
Idle "Inaktiv"
Away "Borte"
Contacts "Kontakter"/"Venner"?
Icon/Avatar: "Bilde"

Does that sound ok?

And one question to the developers, do I have to re-translate all the nibs everytime there is a new release, or is there another system?

Anyway, I wasn't fast enough to finish the translation to the 0.8 version, but I hope that I'll manage it for the next release.

For the nibs, right now, they will need to be retranslated for a new release if they change. The Localizable.strings files are managed by the Localization Suite we use to aid translation and are automatically updated; you'll just need to update any strings which changed or were added.

I'm working with the Localization Suite author to get it to the point that we can use it reliably for automating translation of the nibs, as well... that may or may not happen soon. Most nibs won't change between releases, though.

Once you finish your initial translation, we'll add you to the adium-translators mailing list where you'll get advance notice of "string freezes" giving at least a week to respond to changes made between the last release and an upcoming one.

I should make all that information into an organized sticky sometime soon :)

Very good that you're making a norwegian translation (since I'm norwegian).

I just want to tell you that:
Contacts = Kontakter
(Friends = Venner)

If you need any translating help, just ask! Anytime! :)

I would have used avatar as it is a norwegian word too.

Translation done.

Post by PigZelner »

Happy to see there is Norwegian Adium users out there too!

The norwegian translation seems to be done, and I need as much feedback as possible when the localization is included in Adium.

About the "avatar" word, I can't find it in my norwegian dictionary, and my goal is to make Adium as much Norwegian localized as possible without using too many imported words. But if you guys really want "avatar", I'll put it in.

tooltip is the window that gives information when you let your mouse stay on a certain place. In Adium it is mostly meant for the information you see when you stay with your mouse over a contact.

Thanks! I unchecked it the last time I saw it and after that I have gotten angry because of the lack of it (but I did not knew that it was the tooltip). Perhaps something like "extra contact information" would be OK (in norwegian of course (ekstra kontaktinformasjon). On the other hand "more info" (mer info) would be OK too. Because it lays under the contact list it got explained what it is about.

New Adium release!

Post by PigZelner »

Now I really need your guys help! The translation isn't perfect yet, so I need as much feedback as possible regarding the Norwegian translation.

For example, what is best, "Koble på/av", or "Logg på/av"?

By the way, I have noticed that the newest translation I sent in, isn't included in Adium 0.82, but an older version. No idea why, so there is some untranslated stuff around I'm aware of :/

Jeg foretrekker logg av/på. Litt fordi koble fra/til høres ut som noe du gjør med for eksempel internett tilkoblingen. Ikke bare en konto i adium. Men det er meg.
