Connect/Disconnect All

Post by nitram_g3 »

Hi,

i can't seem to find the option 'Connect All' or 'Disconnect All' in the menus. I used this often.

If I'm connected to say 1 of my 5 accounts and select 'Online' i only change the status of that one active account to online. I would like to let the others go online to.

Am i missing something?

Are you using 0.8? If you are, then you will get the desired effect of connecting by choosing "Available" from the status menu. To disconnect, choose "offline" from the status menu.

Or any available status would work ;)

You can actually choose any non-offline status, as you can sign on all your accounts as away as well.

Hi, I am indeed running 0.8 but what you tell me does not have the same effect as the old connect all command. I am checking it right now: I have 5 accounts ( MSN, AIM, ICQ, Jabber and Yahoo) and am online for only Jabber. Now I want to connect to all so I select (Available) from the Adium menu. But this does nothing, or at least... all the now offline accounts remain offline.

I have to either select 'Online' for each individual offline account, or I have to use the 'Offline' menu option (thereby indeed logging out of all the accounts) and *then* select 'Available'.

I would like to have the ability to have the old 'Connect All' menu item where it would automatically set to online all the accounts that were offline, but without disconnecting already-online accounts first.

Do you have the other accounts set to connect automatically? This will only affect the accounts that are chosen to connect automatically. IIRC, this was the same behavior of the connect all option in .77.

Edit: Oh, I see what you mean about only having 1 account connected. Yes, I agree with you in this regard. If some of the "automatic" accounts are connected and others aren't, choosing "Available" should connect the ones that aren't, but it doesn't. Perhaps this is something for .81?

+1

The way that I use Adium (as do many others in our organization), is to have our internal Jabber account as the only account that is automatically connected upon startup. This way, I can start Adium to have a conversation with a coworker without making myself visible to by the rest of the world. My other accounts are known by customers, vendors, etc.; and I don't always want them knowing that I am available. Most times, after starting, I would go ahead and do a "connect all" to log onto the other accounts. I really miss this feature.

Yes, this is a problem for me as well.

I have 5 different IM networks, and I leave them connected at the office. Also, like the previous poster, I only have my internal account set to log in automatically, and leave the other ones off until I simply selected "Connect all" to connect the other 3. I also have the same Adium setup on my laptop. When I connect from the laptop, a couple of the IM networks get disconnected on my desktop machine. Before, I could easily come back and pick "Connect all"; now I have go under the Status menu and individually reconnect the networks under submenus (no, just selecting Available doesn't reconnect the disconnected networks).

What's worse, 0.8 now causes the disconnection of Jabber networks on the remote machine when 0.77 didn't. I'm not saying this is necessarily the "fault" of 0.8, but 0.8 is doing something differently, and this makes the lack of having Connect All even more irritating because I have to manually reconnect to 4 out of the 5 networks (And before anyone says, well, you should be leaving yourself connected when you're connecting from somewhere else, I'd say: that is exactly the usage style of dozens of people here; we're on IM networks on the desktop, and connect at various meetings, home, etc., from a laptop or other machine. And since Adium allows almost unlimited configurability for some things, I think the requesting Connect All/Disconnect is a pretty reasonable request.)

Please bring back Connect All/Disconnect All.

Now, it doesn't have to be in the form of explicit Connect All/Disconnect All selections in a menu...if just reselecting the master "Available" selection would have the effect of of reconnected disconnected accounts, that would also be fine by me.
