So are you sure Growl is turned on??

Yes, as mentioned above, Growl is set to run at login; the Growl preference pane also says Growl is running.

Could it possibly be an older version of Growl that doesn't respond to new(er) style notifications? I recall Growl 0.7 migrated the way apps register and post notifications and this could be why all of them are being ignored even if it is running.

Again, as mentioned above, they're both the latest versions of Growl and Adium. I've setup Adium to play a sound and Growl notification whenever someone comes on/ offline. The sound plays, but no Growl notification.

For me, this is the only thing spoiling an otherwise excellent (and excellent looking) program. :(

That's very strange. My advice is to verify your answers to all the questions asked. Maybe you missed something.

Also, is there anything different or special about your setup of OS X? Anything at all.

sorry for not replying - as far as I know I don't have any special setup with Mac OS X. I'm on 10.4.3 with the dev tools (like Xcode etc) so I don't know if that will affect it. But when I first installed Adium + Growl, I was using 10.3.9 (without the dev tools) and I had the same problem then as I do now.

Any sort of Haxies installed? Are you running low on disk space? *grasping at straws*

Haha consider straw well and truly grasped at this stage...

I did have ShapeShifter installed, but I've now uninstalled it and still no joy. I've got just under 8GB of space left; so while that's not really a lot, I would've thought that would be enough for Growl?

Whoo-hoo, got mine to work!

It's already been answered - you have to go into ADIUM (not Growl), go to Preferences..., then select Events, where you have your Event Presets and Sound Sets to choose from.

Expand your options, and click on the little "+" at the bottom to add a new action to the event. A box will pop up with a drop down list of actions, and one of them should say "Display A Growl Notification", if you already have Growl installed.

You'll need to do this with whatever events you want Growl to display its notification with.

And there you go! Try it out :D

I'm using Adium v0.86 on Tiger 10.4.3.

Again, as mentioned before, I've already set up Adium to display a Growl notification just like you have in your screenshot.

Sometimes, Growl will not display any notifications for a while, then it will suddenly display a whole ton of them that it had cued up. Restarting Growl seems to fix the problem.

Yeah, I've noticed that too, GrowlTunes would hang on launch or something, and then BAM! it would recover and all the notifications exploded onto my screen. Hasn't done it to me for a while though, not since .7

Help us out then, send in a sample while it's hung.
