I am trying to setup GTalk on Adium. I have enabled it on Googles side, and tested it out with the browser and it works fine.
When I try and login, it just keeps prompting me for the password. I have gone through everything I can think of, including trying to setup as XMPP/Jabber and it gives me the same problem.
I also tried the instructions here: https://accounts.google.com/DisplayUnlockCaptcha
Nothing is working! I have another GTalk account working fine right no, but this one refuses to go in!
Any ideas?
Gtalk keeps asking for password
Re: Gtalk keeps asking for password
You may need to assign an application specific password for Adium:

That's how I got mine to work.

Re: Gtalk keeps asking for password
Same problem here with a Gtalk and also with a Facebook.
EDIT: Looks I found solution for my problem, not sure if it will help you: http://osxdaily.com/2012/03/15/mac-apps ... in-access/
EDIT 2: Nah, it looks like it solved just a problem with a Gtalk
Facebook still cannot auto-login.

Re: Gtalk keeps asking for password
I am not using Two Factor authentication, so the Application Specific Password does not apply.
Keychain fix did nothing as well.
I am running 10.8.3

Re: Gtalk keeps asking for password
It is because Google blocks sign-in attempts from apps which do not use modern security standards (mentioned on their support page). You can however, turn on/off this safety feature by going to the link below:
Go to this link and select Turn On
https://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps
Moreover google block an ip when you try to send a email since a unusual location, so, you can unblock in the next link

and clicked in
accounts.google.com/DisplayUnlockCaptcha .

Re: Gtalk keeps asking for password
You really have 2 solutions
* Allow less secure apps
* Turn on 2-factor and then have a specific app password for Adium

Re: Gtalk keeps asking for password
This was a terrific help to a really bugging problem. Thank you!
Re: Gtalk keeps asking for password
I have not been able to login to gtalk in a while and I only receive this error. Maybe Adium doesn't work anymore with gtalk. I do not want to use the web for hangouts, adium was more convenient after years.
This worked: https://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps
I was able to make a password for Adium and it logged in again.
I tried to turn on 2-step in my google acct and that did not seem to help.Error: Not Authorized
