What IM client??

Hello..

I used to use Yahoo.. but also use Adium. I stopped using adium a long time ago because of my yahoo not working with it anymore. I want to go back to using adium, but I'm having a real hard time finding a good client to use with adium now. I signed up for AOL.. and then found out they aren't doing IM anymore. I also tried the gmail mail in thoughts I would be able to use them, but I can't figure out how to use their IM chat for this either. I use a mac computer. Can someone please tell me what a good client to use for Adium is? And how to go about registering that IM to sign onto it on Adium?

the chat service we usually recommend is XMPP. https://adium.im/help/pgs/Account-XMPP- ... count.html has information on registering an XMPP account.

Oh, well.. still having a hard time. I go to the link, and the instructions give me choices, in which I'm not sure what to pick. I live in the USA, and apparently, most of the public server directory for the servers to choose from don't have good ratings, and I also don't know anybody around my area that uses these, so I would be talking to nobody I know. Thank you for trying to help me out anyway though.

I was hoping there would just be something like Yahoo.. where I sign up for an email, and then use that same email sign on for the account I sign onto in the Adium chat application. Maybe there is nothing like that anymore..

Hi lany,

you can choose any of the XMPP servers whether they're in the USA or not. On top of that, all of the XMPP servers can talk to each other so you can chat to anyone using XMPP. That's very similar to Yahoo where your friends also needed to use Yahoo for you to be able to chat with them with your Yahoo account.

I guess the best way to go would be to either a) ask your most important friends what chat services they use and go with that or b) suggest they register an XMPP account.

Okay. I went to just pick one of the jabbers, and then came to this message after following that link to get it:
