Moving Groups in Contact List

Post by GoTrey »

Hey. In previous versions of Adium, I used to be able to organize my groups in whatever order I wanted no problem. However, with 0.81, the groups stay locked in place. Is there a workaround to fix this, b/c the libgaim def isn't putting my AIM buddy list groups in the correct order, so I want to do it manually...

I think you will be able to move groups by holding down the apple button and dragging your groups wherever you want.

Yeah, I don't understand why this information about moving group headings is not clearly stated somewhere in preferences. It was really aggravating not knowing how to move my groups because Adium was not adhering to the way i had aligned them in Ichat and AIM.

We're not really happy with it either to be honest.

The problem is that if we treat the borderless contact list like a regular window (and require holding down command to move it), people don't know how to move it (This is how things are in 0.7). If we reverse the behavior (like in 0.8 ), people instead don't know how to move contacts and groups.

We considered placing a message about this in the preferences but were afraid that the majority of users wouldn't read it, and as such it's not a real solution to the problem.

A few other ideas were tossed around but nothing that jumped out as the right way to handle this. The effort is appreciated if you guys want to brainstorm.

The general consensus though was that we'd rather have users not knowing how to edit their contact list than not knowing how to move it. Nothing like getting the contact list stuck in the center of your screen and dragging groups around like crazy in an effort to move it :)
