Just in case no one else has heard of this: AutoAdium 1.1

It's a pretty cool little app.
AutoAdium
What AutoAdium does is alternate between 16 (4 groups of 4) away messages for you at predetermined times. It includes the ability to loop them as well. For more details check out the screenshot below. Also allows for your currently playing iTunes song to be included in your away message.
Works with the newer IM client Adium.
It's a little clunky to use at the moment, but it's getting there.

Looks like an interesting idea, but I think I'll wait for some more functionality before I start using it.
And to the Adium devs: you know you've succeeded when people make other programs to interface with yours.

I started using it and it's pretty cool, but it is missing some stuff. Neat idea though.

Couldn't away message changing be accomplished pretty easily with just an AppleScript and not a whole separate application?

Well I rather have a clean GUI as an application than a klunky, pure-script GUI.

also, from a look at those screenshots, that gui has less to be desired of. the app is also limited to 5.. what about support for infinate away messages, randomization, and custimization.
a script could just load from a parsed text file...

goinup: A Text File idea is cool!
Someone can code this (I obviously can't!)

it doesn't *seem* that hard especially if this site's applescript works

maybe i'll take a stab at it tonight.. we'll see how things go.

I hope everyone enjoys this and I hope it works well. stress test it and let me know how well it works. you will need to create a .txt file and place it in your home directory.
is there anyway to post a file in these forums so i can attach this applescript?
all the best and happy holidays.
thanks,
goinup

For the time being i have hosted this file in my web directory at school.
this script will change the away message every 5 minutes. you can change the delimiter (default is the + sign), directory location, and refresh rate. the applescript is documented well enough for most users.
permission is given to modify the script. please give credit where credit is due.
EDIT link removed. if you would like this script please PM me.
i called the script randam (radom + AwayMessage)

Works!
And be consistent! (the comment says that the default file is AwayMessage.txt while the actual script says AwayMesage.txt)
And any applescript installed in Adium works! (obvious, but just telling people)
<edit>Also add a if Adium account goes online thing so that the script stops once the user goes offline

So I decided to stop by the Adium Forums, and found a thread about my program. Flattered, really. So, anyways, AutoAdium's up to 2.2.1 now, and AdiumSchedule just hit 0.6 yesterday, so any feedback would be awesome. I'm not much of a fancy-interface building kinda guy, but I am working on it 8)

the idea seems neat, but as you can read here some people want a tad more features built into the app, keep up the good work though!! great.

Couple of thoughts, most are UI as I've not used the app:
Here is your screen shot:
I realize the app is rb, but overall if you could cleanup the interface to fit in with the rules of the HIG, you'd have a much prettier app overall. The "do it" button is overly huge, and also the words do it don't convey what they are doing, just "it".
The cancel button is extremely close to the drop down right above it.
What real world device is this emulating that it needs brushed instead of aqua? Just a thought.
The interface leaves something.. I dunno, bla about it. I'm not sure how, but maybe it's the 4 text input fields so close together. Open up interface builder and redo it in there with the guides, and you should get a feel for how it could probably work better.
Just some random thoughts.

It's a great concept.
I'd suggest a list, with +/-/Edit buttons. Like in Adium's status prefs.

Thanks for the suggestions....I'll be sure to try out different themes tonight . As for the pic, that's for AutoAway (which I stopped updating 2 or 3 months ago, as no one uses AIM too much nowadays. I assume the suggestions still apply though

Ok, I gave it my best shot, and I kinda like it. I've got a (semi) working beta, and here's a screenshot if you're interested:
