If the active text field in the Custom Status window is the "Status Message" view, you can't hit Escape to close the window. Is this intentional? Do all text views not allow this?

Yeah I saw that too, and believe it did cancel it in .8

If you do that you can't switch to things like kanji. Probably not going to return. You can't use cmd+w?

Ah, I didn't know you could use Cmd-W. That seems kind of non-standard (not that I'm saying it should be taken out)...the Custom Status window seems more like a modeless dialog box (i.e. you open it to perform a specific action, setting a status) than a closable panel (like a prefs window, which you open, change settings in, and close again). But if Escape would mess things up then I guess Cmd-W is better than nothing.

I guess you mean that by saying "I wanna be a forum mod! " I'm proving that I'm too immature and don't take the mod position seriously enough...or what?

Being lighthearted or "silly" about it doesn't necessarily disqualify someone...if I were a mod I'd take it quite seriously...I've been an Adium user and a forum member longer than most of the people here and am by no means the n00b that I might have sounded like in that post. That doesn't mean I'm asking to become a mod, or even saying I deserve to be one, but I think your post was kind of unfair.

Fred's been around here forever. Of course, TheSilverFox has been, too, so this is silly.

We added a few new forum mods, 'cause they were needed... jstamos and djbsquared were around on #adium in IRC when we were discussing it. We'll see how forum loads are handled by the new 'responsible' figures... if it seems more people in charge are needed, both of you would be fine candidates.

Tick: I only meant it was a non-standard for that particular window. To me, the close button has always been for windows where you aren't really headed in any particular direction when you're using them. With the message window or prefs window, you just use them to do whatever you need (talk to someone until the conversation is over, or set prefs until you're happy) and then close them. If you then reopen them, everything you just did is still in effect. With the custom status window, the whole point of the window is to perform a specific action, which can only be done using the OK button. It's like the custom status window is asking you "do you really want to do this, or do you want to cancel?" and instead you just kind of walk away. But since windows don't have feelings, and my argument is kind of flopping here anyway , I'll admit that Cmd-W is okay.

cmd-w makes sense because...(drum roll) the window has a close box. moving on.

i've never thought of using Esc for anything, especially backing out of dialog-ish windows (it seems so Windoze-esque). However, when I see buttons "Cancel" and "OK", i expect that cmd-. will select Cancel. however, for some reason, cmd-. does not work if the text area is active in the Custom Status window. if i activate the text field at the top of the window, then cmd-. works.

Is that a os x standard combo bosk?

as far as i know it is...i don't think it's officially deprecated, and i've known it as standard since i started on Mac OS 7 many years ago.

and obviously it's functioning here, and there's no conflicting text-editing usage that should prevent it from working regardless of focus in the window.

Command-. is the most standard way to cancel besides Escape.
