Away message log/disconnected

Post by pagsball »

I always feel like an old guy new to computers when I post on forums like this... I searched high and low for a topic like it and couldn't find it, but I will walk away with my tail between my legs if shown another post of the same requests.

1) I love the user chat logs and would love to see an away message logger. Reason being, I put a good deal of effort into away message and I'd like to come back and read them in a few years window to the past style.
My understanding is that this can't be done by way of plugins and scripts, or I'd have posted on xtras.

2) Sometimes I chat with someone to find out several messages later that I was disconnected minutes earlier (verbose, as you can tell). Sometimes I also come back and can send and receive messages to myself, while actually disconnected and unable to chat with others until I disconnect and reconnect manually. Has the automatic reconnection been an issue lately, or is it my busted airport?

Love,
Pagsball

I've been here since the beginning and I'm happy to tell you, Adium's looking great, fellas. People complaining is a strong sign of successful software.

This is probably a dumb "fix" to your first question, but if I have a good away message that I'd like to save, I ask my best friend to IM me so it will be saved in my logs. Luckily, she also understands the importance of a good away message.

You could also save them in a text file? I know these aren't the most high-tech ideas, but it's what I would do. :)

Yeah, that's what I'm doing now. It motivates me not to put up worthless away messages. The problem is, it's not a real log and I change them often. I'd rather just not have to worry about it. Good ideas though, and thanks for the reply!

Would this be possible with scripts? Are they able to save to files now?

No, this wouldn't be possible through scripting (not without one uuuuuuugly script...). I don't see it happening in Adium anytime soon, either, as it just seems like a fair amount of bloat.

However, you could open an IM with yourself, and all of the status changes should be logged.
