Questions or requests

Hello!

I'm using Adium and Proteus, and I'm getting stuck with Adium, it really rocks!

But I have a few questions...:

-Is it possible to have the smileys show up in the contact list? And not only in the little yellow window.

-Is there a hotkey to bring Adium to the front, and open the first unread message?

-In Proteus, there's a way to have your iTunes playing song in your display name, for that just insert %status in your display name. Is this possible in Adium?

If there is no solution for these, they are requests! :)

1. No, that's really ugly and unnecessary.

2. No, but click on the dock icon or press command-tab until you get to Adium :) A specific hotkey for switching to adium is also unnecessary.

3. Yes. Go to the text field in which your display name is set, and go to Edit -> Insert Script and insert the one you feel is appropriate :)

Thanks for the quick answer!
About point 2, I'm not really ok with this... in Proteus, I had set command-space, and it was very practical! Just hit this hotkey, and you have the first unread message! And if you reply to the first one, rehit command-space, and you get the second one! I think this is really cool...

And thanks for point 3!

You may find a third party solution that will do the trick for this. It has no reason to be built into Adium. Check MacUpdate for a program that will set Applications to hotkeys. http://www.macupdate.com

This is something we feel should not be in. It means that if any other application uses that key, then you invalidate that hotkey within that application as well. There are other reasons as well, but in the end it's not going to happen.

The menubar item has a bring Adium to front option, though. Doesn't this serve the same purpose as this request?

Not really, since that requires the mouse. However, Tick's point is valid, since it appears that Proteus' hotkey (command-space) is now used by spotlight...

launchbar also uses a system-wide cmd-space. (which is why as soon as i install tiger later tonight i'm going to change spotlight to cmd-opt-F  )

Yeah, but you can change the hotkey, Spotlight, Proteus and I think LaunchBar...

And about using a third-party app, to use a software, you need a command in Adium, a menu item like "Open first unread message".

And, other question, the /music script doesn't work for me...

Isn't there some prefs in X where you can assign apps and/or scripts to whatever keys you want? I think I've seen it but I'm to lazy to check...

Yes, there is, in the Keyboard and Mouse prefpane... but I think it is only for menu items. Could someone write a script for that? I don't know AppleScript...
