OTR keys with Adium ?

Post by vincen »

Hi,

I would like to use OTR with someone using GAIM on Linux. It looks OTR uses a key with Adiumx, but I find nowhere how to generate these keys :(

A link to a helpful documentation would be appreciated ;)

Thanks

Documentation for that is still in progress, but try the lock icon in the toolbar.

Thanks for the tip but the lock icon offers choice: Start an OTR talk.... but when I select it nothing happens !
If anyone else has some ideas how to create the necessary keys for OTR ?

Thanks

OTR creates its private key automatically.

Evands, I'm confused when OTR automatically creates keys, as I tried to start an OTR conversation with someone on Jabber by clicking the lock key and select Start OTR chat but nothing more happens, and if I look in libgaim directory on my computer I see no keys created

Are they created somewhere else ? Do I have a way to check they are created ?

I'm running latest released version of Adium on Mac OS X 10.4.1

Thanks

Hm. I, too, am confused. They are supposed to be in that libgaim folder you found, indeed, and I've never seen them not be automatically generated when initially needed.

An OTR advanced preference pane has already been implemented for 0.82, which supporting manually generating/ regenerating keys among other things... I'm PMing you a link.

Evan,

So I did some tests today with the build you sent me few days ago. I'm unable to activate correctly OTR (my remote user is with gaim on linux and OTR plugin installed). I generated a key on my adiumx and he did his on his computer. When I tried to communicate with him by Using Menu start OTR discussion, he told me he got a popup with my key and gaim added it in its keys. Here on Adiumx nothing similar ! If I go in preferences I see no key in list of keys, and when I try to send a message at my remote friend, I got a message from Adium telling me remote doesn't accept clear messages and I need to start a private conversation for that and finishes by telling me Message discarded :( When my friend send me a message I got also a warning telling me I'm not in private mode and so I can't see his message !

What's wrong ?

Thanks
