** Crash! **

Post by superpants312 »

Earlier today, I edited my buddy info (or whatever it's called), saved it, and then when I went to get info on my own screen name (I'm on my own buddy list), Adium crashed. Since then, it has crashed every time I have tried to restart it after this initial crash. The application opens, but as it is signing on, it crashes.

I submitted a bug report, and I don't really know if this is the right forum to post this, but I'd really like help. I'm using AIM right now, and I much much much prefer Adium, and I miss it greatly :).

I've tried reinstalling 0.81 or whatever the latest release is, I've tried restarting my computer -- no luck.

Thanks to anyone who can help :)

Sounds like a corrupt .plist file, i think they are in:
~/Library/Preferences/

Try deleting those, and see if it helps

Edit: They should have adiumx in their names

Tipo 61: you're right about it probably being a correct plist, but the Adium prefs are in ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0 ...except for one or two plists in ~/Library/Preferences/. It's almost always a plist in the app support folder.

Ahh, I forgot about the ones in application support. I think the ones I remembered only handle window positions anyways, so they aren't too likely...

Nope, a lot more. But it's one of the things :D

The majority is in Application Support.

Thank you! :)

I don't know what .plist it was, but I deleted the one in Application Support and some other ones... hahahaha... I get delete happy when I lose an application...

But it worked -- My active deleting lost all my settings, but I'm often apt to delete them on my own and start anew...

But thank you guys! :D

What extras are you using, sometimes certain message views crash adium, for me, if they are selected. :?

Make sure you send in the crash log if Adium asks.. if you let us know the name or email you used on the crash logs we can look it up and see what happened.

Um... I think I have CandyBar as a messageview and for my contact list, it's all mine personally...

The screen name I used in my crash log(s) is the same as mine on here [superpants312].

Thanks for any help, guys. :) I love Adium.

Oh, deletion

Post by superpants312 »

I deleted everything associated with Adium... any customizations, any .plists, the app itself, etc...

And I reinstalled. Granted, I lost everything, but it's working (for now).

I hope you guys can figure out what's wrong :)

It looks like a script (have you installed any script addons? or placed any scripts in your profile or status?) is causing the crash.

Script

Post by superpants312 »

I did have a countdown script in my info and in my away message (at one time, not then though), but I had the script for at least a month (in my info) without any problems.

I DON'T have the script, now :), however handy it was.

Thanks.
