Spotlight seems to favor iChat logs over Adium logs whenever i try to search for anything. Anyone else experience this and know how to fix it?

The only way I could think of would be to create a Spotlight plugin for Adium logs so it distinguishes them from regular html files, but I have no idea how to do that.

The reason Spotlight seems to favor iChat logs over Adium .html files is that the criteria for the sorting in the listing is "Date Last Opened".

iChat seems to attach the date and time of when the Chat window was closed to the log as the "Date Last Opened". Adium Logs currently don't do this.

That's why Adium Logs show up at the bottom of the searches with "No Date" as the entry for "Date Last Opened". Hope the devs can add that bit of code to attach that meta data to Adium Logs.

Some ideas for making the log format more amenable to spotlight, plus some other enhancements, are under consideration.

That would be cool! Also i like the idea of spotlighting contacts. (I.E Right click on a contact and it spotlights there email/full name)

Something else you could do is set up an automator action to add spotlight comments to all of your logs that would make them show up under a spotlight search.

Edit: I'm actually working on making that workflow right now. I'll post it when I'm done if it's successful.

Edit 2: It's done! When it asks you to choose a file/folder, choose ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Users/Default/Logs

When it asks you to enter spotlight comments, just enter whatever you want to be added (I just said "log"). Automator will add this to the spotlight comments of every file and folder contained within the Logs folder (this can take a while depending on how many logs you have). Then, you can search for something, and just include the word you entered. For instance, If I search for "blah log" or "log blah", then spotlight will show any Adium logs with the word "blah" in it.

Get it here
