My font and colors won't stick

Hello,
Apparently I am doing something stupid, but I can't get the font and color of my messages to stick in the preferences. I do what the help FAQ says but it just doesnt work. It keeps going back to Lucidia Grande 12 point.
Someone please help me fix this, it's going to drive me nuts.

Uuh OK, as soon as I posted this, it started working.
I think this apple has it in for me.
