Block / Unblock & Allowing ANY user to IM (not a buddy)

Post by SlimMJS »

My AIM isnt letting me receive IMs from ANYONE thats not on my buddy list. Even when I DO add them, they cant. When I checked in the regular AIM application, it had them added, but BLOCKED. weird... quite a process to get IMs huh? There's a menu within the AIM preferences to "Allow All Standard IMs", which is what I have selected, but I cannot fond a similar preference in Aduim. Help...? Thanks!

Adium should be recognizing whatever privacy settings you set up in another client. Try using the Official Client from AOL (available at http://www.aim.com).

"the Official Client from AOL" ... that's what I meant by "the regular AIM application"

I am using both, so I can check the settings.

What about the fact that any buddy I add from either appication starts out as Added, and Blocked?

I have a question regarding this, too. I had the official client set-up to ask me before allowing buddies not on my list to IM me (i.e., person x is trying to IM you, do you want to accept or decline), but those IMs still come through. Is adium unable to recognize that specific setting, or is it a bug?

No, Adium does not honor that setting (as that is a specific preference in AOL's IM client). Any settings which are stored on the server, however, Adium can honor.

Can't, as it's not stored on the server, as Colin said :)

I'm confused at this point in the thread.

What are your privacy settings set to in the official AIM client?
The duck still burns.
