Umm, you make an events set with no sounds in. File > Preferences > Events

Or general preferences and just drag the slider all the way down..

Is there a way to adjust the Adium volume without having to go through the Preferences pane? Sometimes I just want to mute it for a couple of minutes, or decrease/increase it a bit. Something like a shortcut or a slider/knob on the message box would be perferct.

You could set an away message and check "mute while away" in the status window. I think a volume slider in the message window would be way too specialized.

This would affect my presence status. Additionally it's not as elegant as I'd like it to be (not to mention easy and fast to do). I was hoping for something like Command & Shift & Up/Down/M(ute). I could settle for a single button on the toolbar along with all the other ones, just for mute.

The way I see it, there are a number of ways to achieve this (in order of preference):

- Shortcut (probably universal, without needing focus)
- Dock/Adium menu bar entry
- Widget on message box/contact list

In Adium:

Open your preferences, go to General, look at the bottom where is has the volume for Adium, and tahdah. Easiest way to do it.

Does anyone use the default sound set in Adium? In my opinion it's far to loud and noisy to be useful. Perhaps it could be altered a bit, so that it becomes more convenient to keep?

I use it...

I have strange, non-mac speakers though.

I don't understand why there isn't a mute check-option in one of the menus... that would be really helpful in my opinion.

Is there any other program on your computer which offers this? Heck, is there any which has its own volume slider?

iTunes, DVD Player, VLC, a good number of shareware games; all of which change the app's volume independent of the system volume (like Adium does currently) and have mute options.

It's been a long while since I've used it, but I think the offical Mac ICQ client has a mute as well.

Media application, Media application, Media application, Media applications, IM Client.

Evan should have asked "Is there any other non-media application on your computer which offers this?". Of course a music or video playing application is going to offer volume control.
