Missing Messages

Post by SynapseDM »

Howdy.. I think I found a bug

I went away earlier today and my computer put itself to sleep .. when I returned and woke it up, I saw that there were messages from people in the little away window but as soon as Adium realized it had been offline, the away message indicator disappeared as all my accounts re-connected and I'm assuming the messages were lost. I didn't get a chance to remember who the messages were from, but upon reading the message history on a couple of my buddies, I didn't see anything new..

The log viewer for today also didn't show anything new from anyone while I was away but I definitely saw some of my buddies names in the away message window ..

Where'd they go?

Thanks,
Jace

I would actually direct them to

http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/ReportingBugs

So that they understand a bit better :)

How are you able to get the messages to show up in the away message window (like the official AIM client does) and not all over the screen? I've been trying to figure that out, but assumed it wasn't possible.

/me all confused

uuuuhm, messages from people in the away message window?

naah, when one of your account has a different state, it will show the state of every account in the away window.
This might mean that one of the accounts disconnected for some reason and Adium showed you that.

So in this window you see the account (your accounts) and the state they are in.
Messages arrive in message windows, anywhere else would be ... uuuuhmmm... impossible ... (no?)

Right. But in the official AIM client, there's a setting that allows you to hide any incoming messages and in the away message box, there's a sub-box that allows you to see the names of the people who have IMed you and how many messages they left. It sounded like that's what the original poster was able to do and I haven't figured out how to do that yet (if it's even possible).

No big deal. Just curious. :)

nope, I don't fully understand how this would work, but afaik there is no other place for messages than a message window.

In the AOLIM client, there are multiple windows, and no way to combine them, so hiding messages while you're gone makes sense. Less clutter. However, in Adium, since most people keep all of their messages in a single window, this feature isn't quite as urgent. This, however, is NOT what the original poster was asking. Any more talk of this should go to a new Trac ticket using http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/RequestingFeatures as a guideline.

As for the original poster - message windows do not close themselves, and they should have still been open. If this was not the case, then do not hesitate to report the bug using trac: http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/ReportingBugs - though keep in mind it would be very nice to have a way of reproducing this.
