adium request

It would be very cool if someone could develop a dashboard widget that allows Adium users to browse and install new extras.

I'll look into it, I've been thinking about this for a while; but I hear the xtras site is soon to undergo an overhall (it's certainly due for one), so I'll come back to it then. At the moment I was just thinking of a search widget (probably with integrated results) but if the "Recent Updates" or Xtra of the moment is given an RSS feed or something similar I could try and put that in too.

Integrated install should be possible using the adiumxtra identifier thingy (like this adiumxtra://www.adiumxtras.com/download.php?xtra_id=1500), but this has difficulties with packs with more than one thing in the zip file, for example when a contact list style is distributed with a colour layout, so again waiting on the xtras site or this handler being cleaned up a little to recognise multiple xtras in one download.

Note that a developer in #adium is working on integrating the xtras site into Adium's preference pane.

But this will be cool…

That's very cool :D. Just finished my first stab at it actually I got bored waiting for the xtras site to update and this post reminded me about having a go.

If anyone's interested I'll post a link on the forums, let me know if you are. At the moment though it just takes you to the results page of what you searched for but it's pretty lightweight and so can be used quickly.

You could always use the code of other things; I'm sure Apple wouldn't mid your using of Dictionary's code…
