Goal: An Icon-Only Contact List for .82

Hey, under .81 I had a pretty good icon only contact list, but .82's scroll wheel behavior is different, so I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas on how I could get around it.

Old settings:
I had the maximum width of my buddy list set to 44. I had my buddy icons set to 42x42, and then a 2 pixel margin on the left side. This allowed me to see each buddy's status (Available, Away, Idle, or Away & Idle) at the same time. Whenever more buddies came on than my screen could handle, the scroll bar would appear outside of the 44 pixel area.

Now:
The scroll bar appears inside the 44 pixel area. This means that my buddy icons are partially covered by the scroll bar.

If I increase the maximum width to prevent the scroll bar from covering the icons, then when fewer than a full screen's worth of buddies are online, I get another 10 or so pixels of the status color, and the first letter of my buddy's name or something.

Any ideas on what settings I could use to get it close to what I used to have under .81?

Scroll bar, not scroll wheel, FYI. And it shouldn't have changed between 0.81 and 0.82; could you show screenshots of both?
