Adium as default program?

Is there anyway to set Adium as the default messaging client?

When I try IMing people through forums and such, it attempts to go through the official client. Anyway to set it so that it will direct to adium instead?

Check out More Internet.

Stop using the official client. I was under the impression Adium registered itself as the default handler everytime you open it, but if you use AIM after that it will register itself..kinda like cat and mouse :S, Although I may be mistaken on this

Well, that's the thing. The only time I use the official client is if I'm having issues with Adium, so I log onto the official client to make sure it isn't a problem with the client. Otherwise, the program stays inactive (quit...not even running).

How do I make adium reregister itself as the default program?

I believe you can just open Adium and it will automatically set itself as the default. If this doesn't work, get More Internet, as Perez suggested.

I think this is how you're using both:
1. Launch Adium (Making it the Default Application).
2. Find a problem.
3. Open AIM (Making it the Default Application).
4. Test it there.
5. Quit AIM.
6. Keep Adium running for a long time while repeating 2-5 occasionally.
7. Complaining on the Forums.

Looking at this, I can confirm that it's your fault. But I'm just interpreting the above!

Wow, way to be nice. Even if it is my fault, so be it, but that doesn't mean you have to be rude about it. And I wasn't complaining, I was simply asking a question. I never said I understood how programs worked, and maybe it's obvious to you that running both at once is what was screwing it up, but it certainly wasn't to me. Forgive me for not being as technologically equiped as you.

And no, even after quitting and restarting adium, aim would become the default program without my using it again.

There's a Trac ticket here: http://trac.adiumx.com/ticket/256

But it's a copy of a previous one that the devs closed and called "invalid." I'm not sure if you should file another one (if you're really experiencing a bug) or if the existing ticket is appropriate. Devs? In any case Rita, until this is dealt with, see if More Internet is helpful to you.

I'm guessing it's a bug, since I seem to be the only one having this problem.

Thanks. I've been using it, but running into the same problem. As soon as I open AIM, More Internet resets it. Unless it's supposed to do that, in which case I guess it's working. Oh well. Guess I'll just deal.

Yeah, AIM will still make itself the default client; there's nothing More Internet can do to stop that. But then, once you've opened AIM (i.e. after the point where AIM makes itself the default), you can open More Internet and change the default back to Adium. You'd have to do this each time you run AIM, so if you use AIM more than occasionally then it would probably get tiring.

Heh. Sorry for being rude.

(in a Jar-Jar Binks-ish voice) “How rude!”

I was just trying to state that it was indeed your fault, but I could've been nicer :(

That's cool. At least now I know it's my fault.

Although, I may have to smack you for the "how rude!" comment, 'cause I didn't hear Jar-Jar...I heard Stephanie Tanner. :x :P
