I still say advanced has its place.

Eh, I dunno.. I had a weird thought last night that, if a person holds down option, he/she gets the users dialogue, with a checkbox to enable advanced options, in which case a lot of options would open up. That in itself was weird, but eh :P

Uggggggh... that sounds very bad. Leave Advanced visible if it exists! If a user doesn't need advanced, he/she can leave it alone.

And this is exactly the kind of option that belongs there (Unless we can somehow stick it with privacy, but I have no idea how that area is going to turn out :) ).

Makes sense to me. This is a viable option and since we have no idea where to put it at the moment, let's just stick it in advanced (Which I did, earlier today) :)

I was actually referring to the debate about whether we should have the advanced prefs at all. :P

I vote yes! But then, that's my job. :P

As far as Advanced prefs go, here's what I think:

- Many of the prefs in Advanced are on the way out, are not needed, or need some serious rethinking
- However, there are some prefs in there that work well and don't really have another place to go.

How about, perhaps eventually, renaming the Advanced area to Miscellaneous?

Well, it's been about a year on this one... any light at the end of the tunnel? I hate others seeing when I'm typing, and I'd really appreciate this option being added.

It looks like this discussion was pre-trac. Please search Trac and if there isn't a ticket about this issue, feel free to create one.

Is this not what the "Let others know when you are typing" checkbox in the "Accounts->Preferences->Privacy" tab does already? Or does it not work as advertised?

Provided your chosen protocol supports it :)
