Another update:
Maybe it's some system wide problem? The same thing is happening with me with Proteus. In a list of 20 MSN buddies online, 4 or 5 showed their user icons immediately (no need to start conversation) and the rest, nothing, even the ones I've been talking with for the past 2 hours.

But Adium only had the delay in updating buddy icons, and now most of them simply do not appear. You know any workaround?

Thx!

I've been chatting with 3 people for the last 3 hours and nothing, as I wrote before. The only buddy icons that appeared were of 3 or 4 ppl online that I actually didn't chat with today...

Either use iChat, or get used to it :p

Seriously, all libgaim-based IM apps are like this

I believe you, really. It's just that it wasn't like this before, it just had the updating problem. I use iChat, Adium is mostly for MSN which is the no.1 messenger ppl use here in Brazil (unfortunately).

It's frustrating because it feels like using a PeeCee where a new bug appears and you don't know what to do. Hadn't felt it in years :(

Try this, and see if you get any MSN icons updated:

1. Quit Adium
2. Trash ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Users/Default User/libgaim
3. Open Adium 0.83b4 (http://beta.adiumx.com)
4. Connect
5. Chat with a contact

Thanks Evan, did that, 5 icons appeared immediately (out of 15 ppl online) but I haven't tested chatting now because I'm done for tonight.

Perhaps this is related to the relatively new Windows MSN Messenger 7.0 that PC people recently upgraded to?

'Cause I remember sometime ago I didn't even have the updating problem, lots of times someone would say 'so how do you like my new pic?' or something like that and I could always see it immediately.

MSN icons completely not displaying

I know this is just a repeat of what everyone else has been posting, but can someone offer a better solution than just deleting files/folders in the Library?

None of my MSN icons show up at all ... HELP!

Okay, that gives me a clue as to at least one part of the problem... will make the change for the next 0.83 beta and see where that leaves us.

kiddo,
Evna's solution (above my previous post) worked for me, I get 80% of user icons on MSN now and they update properly. Not perfect but almost there :D

if you have the box checked for "using address book images as contacts' icons" then you have to change your pic in the address book as well as adium. if it's changed in adium your contacts will see the new pic (well they have in my experience), and it updates in the message view (i'm using ichadium) but it won't in the contact list unless you change it in address book.

been there, done that ;)

no but really, i've done all that to get it to change, even though i don't have the address book button clicked. but it doesn't seem to want to change. even in address book--there, it's still stuck on two icons ago

it seems to be working for me...

Do any of you always log on invisible? It seems to me that if you log on invisible the icons won't update properly, even if you then become available afterwards...
