Brushed metal had definite guidelines on when to use it and when not to, which Apple didn't follow, and has continually made seemingly random additions to. Unified has no guidelines whatsoever, which is why it's being used by the people who resisted brushed metal (that, and it doesn't look awful or remove any UI functionality). There's a "screw it, they aren't even trying to provide guidelines, we'll just do what looks good" attitude I've seen around. Personally I'm a big fan of Unified, so I don't mind much, although I wish Apple would consolidate their UI.

Therfore I am releasing my modded Adium Toolbar icons, in Mail 2 Style
Now this is just something I made in FW real quick for fun and thought that I should share it.
