ip address of person messaging you?

Is there a way that I can find out the ip address of someone who messages me, regardless of protocol (ICQ, YIM, AIM, MSN, etc.)?

I have tried the Contact > Get Info and it doesn't show it, at least for the couple of friends that I tried it on.

If not, is this a feature that can be added? I mean I know Adium has to know the ip address to send data back and fourth. Is this something that Growl could do?

Nope. Adium does not know the ip*, it just sends the data to the AOL/Jabber/MSN/etc... server. Growl has nothing to do with sending messages anyway.

*except when using direct connect, which is buggy

If you can setup a direct connection you can get their ip. Theoretically. I haven't managed to setup a direct connection with anyone so I only get the servers ip...
