"Buddy Status" widget for Adium?

Hi! I know it's generally not good form for a forum n00b to ask for something to be programmed that she herself has no idea how to do. Acknowledging, then, that I am old enough to know better...
I recently saw
this widget, which is only for iChat and doesn't seem to be very far along in the development process, but I immediately lusted after it. It seems like a good use of the Dashboard, as opposed to replicating the entire buddy list, which is the only widget idea I've seen mentioned on these forums. I think it'd be fabulous to be able to close (or heck, even keep open) by contact list, but by quickly glancing at the Dashboard see the status of the few contacts I care about the most.
Anyway, just throwing this out there in case someone much smarter than myself wants to tackle it. You'd be my hero(ine) for ever and ever!

That's the current state of Adium's only widget. Nothing to set status yet, just a buddy list.
While this isn't helpful... uh... I have no idea.

There seems to be no point for these though..

?! I see the status drop-down menu there in the screenshot, and it doesn’t work?

It toggles which states should appear on the buddy list. Idle shows only idle buddies, etc.

Uh, no. It doesn't. If it does this on your computer, please tell me as it is a bug. It should be showing your status, and be able to set your status too. However there are a couple of caveats:
Because Adium doesn't usually return the correct status when you query it via Applescript, the drop-down menu will generally be wrong. For example, having all accounts set to Available, Adium returns your status as Away.
Also, it can't yet be used to set status as Adium will only allow you to set your status to Available. The version I currently have on my own machine is ready to work as soon as the Adium team address these issues.

You are correct, it doesn't do that, I just wasn't paying attention and saw it did not change my status
