How to build only english

Post by skier »

Is there a way to build Adium in XCode 2.1 using only the english localization. I think it's great that there are other languages available but i really don't need anything other then english.

Thanks.

You realize, of course, this will only save you a few megs of space in the final package?

Build it, then manually delete the localizations from the final build product by drilling into the .app contents and finding the proj folders

Thanks for the suggestions. I was hoping there was a build option since i would have to delete the localizations every time i built a new version.

There's an app out there somewhere that automatically removes everything but English from apps. Here's the first one a 2 second Google search yielded: http://www.bombich.com/software/local.html

Looks like it hasn't been updated in a while... ymmv.

Maybe it's not merely a question of hard disk space. I would agree it seems a bit peculiar to want to remove other languages. But to each their own.

I am from a non-English speaking country and speak 3 languages so i have nothing against languages from other countries :) The reason I wanted to only build with english is that I have run into problems when building other apps where there was a problem in a localization file that broke the build. Since I plan on building Adium from the SVN source, I just wanted to avoid this potential problem in the future...

It shall never happen to thee in building Adium.

If you speak a language other than English, you have most of the development team at an advantage. Fix issues you run into and contribute your fixes rather than avoiding them ;-)
