Problem with Contact list showing names

Post by titchard »

Hey Guys

I really feel bad for posting the newbie question, but I have been working on this for weeks, and I have no idea what to do!

for some reason I can't get my contact list to show a persons chosen name instead of abcdef@hotmail.com or whatever!

it is driving me MAD!!

Please help if you can!

hey guys,

I have the same problem. Only that my online contacts display their respective nicknames while my offline contacts remain as their email addresses. Any idea how to reactify this?

They are offline, you can't see what they have set. So there isn't a way to change this.

Any plans to store the alias that was used when they went offline? Like the userpics. Don't know why, but when I login with the official MSN client some offline names doesn't appear as e-mails they appear as usernames. And that must be stored on MSN's server or something 'cause it was after I did a clean install.
It's not a bug. It's an undocumented feature.

If they are offline, why does it matter?

I'm having this problem too, or at least similar. I do have view:contact name format: user name turned on. Wether they are online or not everyone shows as their address - never their username. The only time i can see their username is when i put the cursor over the address and it brings up the side box that shows their picture, status, and then username.

Is there anything I can do? I have a lot of contacts because I use instant messenging heavily in both my day job and freelance job and don't know very many of them by their address and it's a bit annoying to have to highlight each one.
