hello, so i just installed this great program, but i share the computer w/ someone. Now it seems since i installed Adium i have lost the user fast switching. My name is now not in the menu bar. i cannot get to the user menu or anything. Strange enough though, i can log out, she logs in and she has the user fast switching. her name is in the menu bar. I do not have "too many" things in the menu bar, so i was just wondering... Has anyone heard of this problem yet and if so, how do i fix it? Thanks for the help..

Adium didn't do it.

Go to the System Preferences and find the Fast User Switching setting and tell me whether or not the name magically appears in the menubar just from having found the setting.

ummm, yeah...

okay, re-read what i wrote....the other users name is in the menu bar on her end...so in other words when i log out and she logs in her; name is in the menubar. But my name is not, there is not even a name at all on the menubar(on my end that is). Just for sh*ts and giggles i still went to the sys. pref's and it was enabled, because i am not the admin i had to go into hers but still, it is enabled. What i am saying is, my name was there in the menubar on my side until i installed Adium. I would think it would be the program somehow...which is confusing. So anything else you could help me out with? Thanks though.

Adium can't do this. Re-read what jstamos typed.

ok is everyone just smoking something funny here or what. I DID DO IT!
i am not the admin. so i went into my wifes account, which she is the admin....it is, her name is in the menubar, but when i switch over to my account there is no name is the menubar....NOW, funny how my name went away when i installed Adium, it might not be the programs fault but i was wondering if anyone ever heard of this before and if they know how to fix it. Once again, i go into system pref. under the admin and fast switching users is enabled, on the admin's account the name on the menubar was already there, but when i switch it to my account it goes away from the menubar when i am on my desktop....So i read what he said...did you read what i said? Or did i not explain myself well? Sorry if i did not and i hope i did this time.

The statement was offensive not for its references to drug use, but for implying that the people trying to help you were operating on partial mental capacity.

It is not Adium's fault, I can almost guarantee you that.

The 'Fast User Switch' menu is no different than any other menulet. You can (holding command) drag it around in the menubar to alter its position, and you can drag it off the menu bar which makes it no longer appear.

You need to visit System Preferences - Accounts from within your user name. When you click on 'Login Options' the menu item will re-appear in your menu bar.

If necessary, have your wife enter her password to unlock the account preferences so you can access Login Options.

It's an offensive expression that implies that we don't know what we're talking about, when indeed we do.

it's not offensive when i have to repeat the smae thing i said...once again maybe i was not clear of what i was trying to explain. I do not know why we are even discussing the remark i made.....

Anyway, if you are not the admin you cannot go into the menu for fast user switching.

When you go into system preferences is there a lock at the bottom?

Click the lock at the bottom of the window, and have your wife enter her password to unlock the account preferences so you can access Login Options.
