… and here we go again. THAT will not be supported. EVAR!

Like all the “support GMail for email notices please!” requests, this one won’t be fulfilled. Unless you want to take a stab at coding that, don’t ask for it.
well maybe someone will. A lot of devs see this forum daily, and maybe someone will fall in love w/ this idea and will implement it.

I don't know what is the big deal. Adium, as any messenger, is just a comunication app, so what's so bad about intergrating other forms of comun. forms into it.
The devs won’t implement such a thing. Someone else might, and they might release it as a plugin. But it will never be part of of Adium.

Sure Adium is a communication app. But blogging isn’t exactly a communication form either. It’s like a book; people can comment and say things about it, but the book itself is just the subject. In this case, the blog is the subject, and people can talk about it with forms of communication, but the blog itself is not a form of communication at all.

The most that’ll get into Adium itself will probably be MSN Spaces support, but probably not the whole RSS thing. By that logic, Adium would become something like Mozilla/Netscape, just a bloated piece of software with every form of communication inside it possible.

EDIT: I respect mbh0ckey and all, but there IS a difference: you’re proposing this to be a part of Adium, not something like a different project, which is what mbh0ckey did.

Well a lot of people consider blogs as forms of comunications. Just like media, tv, newspapers, magazines... and well... this forum :). So I don't see any difference.

And well I did'nt made a ticket w/ this because I'm open to the idea of having it included as a plug-in. When I talked about "Devs" in the last post, I was talking about any Developer, not just Adium's.

Now, I have a question? Why do you agree w/ Msn-spaces support and not the other (Blogspot, etc)? In the bottom line is the same thing. Is just a notification of new posts in a blog.

Sure it is. But the goal of Adium is to support everything the official client does and more, while still keeping the chat client status, and being resonable (no nudges!). So I can say that it cannot become a feed reader. MSN Spaces is OK, because it’s in the official client.

EDIT: ZE FINAL DECISIÓN!

Code: Select all

12:45:29 < zac> microsoft bloats things
12:45:41 < zac> just because MS adds additional bloat for no reason doesn't
                mean adium should.
12:45:56 <@Catfish_Man> especially since it would need more prefs
12:46:04 <@evands> more prefs!
from the IRC channel. So I guess we both lose; no MSN Spaces support or RSS support.

that kinda sucks...anyone know how to make a plugin for such a thing, i know thousands of users would use it...
(i'm referring to the msn spaces...even a link to it in the tooltip when hovering would be swell)

Well just hope that someone will come up w/ something like this.

I guess what MSN in Adium at least should have is the Contact's MSN Space's URL, since that URL is not always derived from the Contact's sign-in name. Whether Adium wants to further support RSS is another matter, but without that URL you can't do anything even if you have a very good RSS reader such as NetNewsWire!
