I have been having problems with Adium lately regarding the contact list. I created a group via ADium, assigned it to my yahoo account. I then move some contacts to that group. i log out, log back in. and the contacts are back in their old contact group. and yes, i did update to the latest adium, 0.84.
i move contacts by right clicking them, selecting "get info" and then moving them to a new contact group from there.
any help appreciated.

I also have the same problem. Everytime I log on after I make changes to my contact list it goes back to the way it was. I have posted about it but haven't found a way to fix this

I have the same problem with my MSN account (
here).
Actually, not only the contacts go back to their old groups, they disappear. When I log out and log in they come back.

the problem is:
when first logging in, adium isn't checking the list on server but sends it's own list information to the server. so, when I arrange my groups on microsoft's msn software, everything seems fine. but when I log in with adium once, then all my old groups re-appear, including the contacts in them

I try to edit my groups using adium but that doesn't work. I'm OK with not using groups though but the situation is still weird.

Yes, I have the same problem, it's possible to have the directory and the file name where contact list is stored, thus we can erase it and update it from the remote server.

Just remove the preference file, edite the groups in aMSN and then set up Adium again.

The official client would be preferable to aMSN... at least the official client is guaranteed to work.

well it does it with all my groups, not just msn...yahoo contacts end up in msn, aim end up in icq, icq en up in yahoo...its all fucked up. i dont have groups divided into anything other than the services themselves, it isnt a problem of say, msn having 2 groups and the contacts from one ending up in another...i hope that makes sense...
is this a bug that will be addressed in a future build or is it something the user can solve?

My groups seem to work fine so I dont think its a big problem. I would try what smacmac said and just edit the buddy list of whatever program in the original client. Just use regualr AIM or iChat to make buddy lists or MSN or aMSN. Im not sure if you said you had already tried that and it didnt work sorry.

Usually when this happens, I trash the libgaim folder in ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Users/Default/, and things work better.

Please try the current beta (
http://beta.adiumx.com) and see if this problem continues.
