Small feature request/already implemented somehow?

One of the very few things I miss in this wonderful application is the possibility to see when someone is writing to me while the contact list and message window is hidden (such as when you use the advanced pref pane to automatically hide windows when you switch apps). This would have to be indicated in the dock icon somehow, I suppose.
I'm not quite sure why I want this function, but I want it! :-D
