Feature Request: Scheduled Blocking.

Basicaly, I'd love to see adium have a feature none of the other chat clients have.

Scheduled Blocking.

I'd like to take everyone in my "work" category...and block them at 5pm...until 8am the following morning.

Yes, I'm perfectly aware that I could use a second screen name. This means two sets of screen names, checking to see who is where....etc.

What a pain. Wouldn't it be far more intelligent, as our work lives blend with our personal lives to be able to do this?

Damn, that's acually a great idea. That would be really useful to me also.

Fill out a trac ticket at http://trac.adiumx.com/newticket .

Separating your work life from your personal life is what keeps most people sane.

If you have two screen names, each with the same contact list, block the non-working buddies in one account - does this not achieve the same effect of the feature request?

Also, using the above method would be more flexible, because if you decide you want to work an hour back, you don't have to adjust the blocking schedule.

The only downfall is you'd have to keep the contact list in sync and that could be time consuming (exporting-importing contact lists).

Sorry, I'm not trying to shoot ur idea down, just thinking out loud...

This idea exists as people like Kirk and I would need. It requires you'd be geeky enough to need IM for work...and yet also need to turn it off.

What's worse, is, I'm just signing off completely...and not on IM because of the hassle.

Arenzera, That's what I'm doing now...
Except with three major services (Aim, YIM, MSN) + the future of where Jabber is going...thats' a MINIMUM of 8 sets that I'm keeping track of..

Do you see the headache? It's more than exporting/importing the lists. It's recognizing the raw screen name, removing it from one list....sigh...you get the idea.

The issue is a really a social problem, as The Tick pointed out...it's a question of sanity.

The workaround isn't that great of a workaround. It's pretty messy.

The other alternative (that I often see colleague do on windows, using naitive chat clients) is that they go invisible. A world of invisibility to solve this problem, is even worse. You'd never see who is online! And you'd be sending blind messages out to your friends who are also invisible

But you are basically going invisible for whatever percentage of your contacts anyhow.

This was in a previous thread. Search before posting. That solution from the old thread was “block and unblock manually” or “make a script”.
