Google Talk and custom status

Hi all,

I've been using Adium for some time now, always using msn accounts, and I'm very happy with it.
Yesterday I wanted to try the new Google Talk so I set up a Jabber account in Adium, which seems to work nicely.

However, I wanted to see the custom status messages set by my contacts in my contact list, so I went to preferences > appearance (set to bright blue, tiny, and regular window), clicked on 'customize' the list layout and selected 'show status below name'. This increased the size of the 'box' around each contact name (i.e. to make room for the additional status line), but did not show anything except the contact name (so only one line with the contact name is shown halfway the bigger 'box'). I could see the custom away messages by choosing 'get info' on the contact.

So, is there a way to see the custom status of jabber contacts? I can see them clearly in iChat. (I did try searching the tickets and forum for this, and maybe this is related to ticket #1513, but I don't know if this is caused by a problem in adium or just my ignorance).

Also, I've heard that Jabber is supposed to be very secure compared to other IM services. Does this mean that the entire conversation (from my side to the google server) is encrypted? Or is it just the password that gets encrypted?

Thanks for any help!

Have you tried holding your mouse over the contact? Does that work?
Then you can see the custom states.

I just tried again, and it seems to work this time. Strange...
Before I couldn't see the custom status message by hovering the pointer over the contact name ('available' was shown) , only the 'get info' worked.

In the get info window, I get something like this (with the custom status display working):
Jabber ID: ****@gmail.com
Status (Talk.v66EC8671B7): Available: hallo

Full Name: ****
whereas before (when it wasn't working) it was something like this:
Jabber ID: ****@gmail.com
Status (Talk.v66EC8671B7): Available

Status (Talk.v66EC8671B7): Available: hallo

Full Name: ****
With two status strings at the same time, so I guess one of them was ignored. (I just copy-pasted the Talk.vxxxxx lines for the non-working case, but I recall that they were two different strings). The other side is using the Google Talk client.

I really don't know what caused it, or how to reproduce this, but right now it seems to work okay again.

I don't think Adium fully supports Google Talk yet...

GT = Jabber for the moment.

0.9 makes it separate, like .Mac, ICQ, and AIM, which are all the same thing really.
