Fonts and avatar not showing up?

On my AIM account I set up a buddy icon and a font, like Verdana in blue or something, and they come up in my conversation window, but my friends say they don't see it on their's. I have my old buddy icon and times new roman pt 12 on their side.

Does anyone know how to save the settings properly, or why they're not going to my buddies?
