Removing buddy icon?

Postby Claisen » Wed Sep 14, 2005 4:52 pm

Sorry if this has been covered before - I did a search but came up with nothing.

I assigned a buddy icon to my AIM account in Adium, and now I'd like to remove it. I can see no obvious way to do so. Anyone?

http://trac.adiumx.com/ticket/483

There is a work-around that requires a little tinkering with Adium, but I could only get it to semi-work for me. The thread is linked to in the Trac ticket.

Why not just choose another icon?

Maybe they meant change it. Just go into Adium preferences and accounts then click edit (lower right) and then look through those menus till you find a icon thingy 8)

Aha, that's the way it should work, but unfortunately it doesn't.

Just make a white icon or the default AIM icon or something. Even if you dont have an icon it will always give you a default one.

Untrue for AIM. If you don't have an icon, you simply don't have an icon (i.e. no icon will be displayed in a chat window). The only difference is that for the tooltips that pop up for each contact, if there is no icon, the AIM running guy will be in place of the icon. But, making the running guy your icon will give you an icon in chats, etc. There simply needs to be an option to have no icon implemented.

Good for you. I can also assure you that I am chatting with people right now who have no buddy icon. Not a guy with a speach bubble, I mean no icon at all. :)

I believe the default AIM guy is forced by some versions of AIM, not the server, but I'm not sure.

Yes I know that. This only seems to happen using Adium. Try using AIM and go sit in a corner.

Look above. There's a trac ticket. It's not like we're unaware of it. Hell, it was presented above for you.

And you know what's linked there? A forum thread about it!
